The Challenge

Our client, a Midlands-based housing association, needed to improve EPC ratings across their older housing stock while reducing tenant energy bills. With 40 properties rated EPC D or below, a significant intervention was required.

Our Solution

We designed a tailored 4kW solar PV system for each property, taking into account individual roof orientations, shading conditions, and tenant energy usage patterns. The programme was phased across three months to minimise disruption.

Funding

The project was funded through a combination of SHDF Wave 2 and ECO4 grants, with Nova Solar managing the entire application and compliance process. The housing association's co-funding requirement was minimised through careful programme design.

Results

  • Average tenant electricity bill reduction: 45%
  • All 40 properties improved to EPC C or above
  • 1,200 tonnes of CO2 savings projected over the system lifetime
  • £250,000 in aggregate tenant savings over 25 years

Tenant Feedback

Tenants reported immediate reductions in their electricity costs, with several noting savings of £30-£50 per month during summer months.
